Enea (2023)
Pathetic and unwatchable "noir"
Pietro Castellitto is a decent actor, but a terrible director, if his first film was terrible, this one is truly obscene, 2 hours of cosmic nothingness, the film doesn't have its own identity, it tries to be a crime, but it's not , tries to be a family drama, but it also fails since the characters and their neuroses are ridiculous, Castellitto Jr believes he is an alternative and profound author but is simply an incapable director. So dear Pietro, limit yourself to being an actor, directing is not for you.
Sergio Castellitto is much Better than his son Pietro, and last but not least, for italian crime noir the only master is Stefano Sollima, surely NOT Pietro Castellitto XD.
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
the first horror movie I saw in my life, and I love it
I was 7 years old when I saw this absolute cult on TV, and from that moment my passion for the horror genre was born, so I will always be grateful to Landis for this film, which expertly combines comedy and horror, managing to be very funny in some parts, but brutal, cruel and tragic in others.
The various characters are excellent, although played by little-known actors, the roles are rendered perfectly thanks to the skill of both the actors, but also of Landis who directs the actors in a very intelligent way.
Some scenes have entered the history of cinema, above all obviously that of the transformation into a werewolf rightly rewarded with the Oscar .... (today a "film" like Barbie is sent to compete for the Oscars .... my God how we are ended badly)
The scenes of the wolf's attacks are very bloody and realistic and the werewolf undoubtedly remains one of the scariest werewolves ever seen in a film, a true quadrupedal monster, enormous and very evil.
Today the few films about werewolves are of poor quality and full of squalid digital special effects, Landis created much nicer effects 43 years ago, thanks to the magician Rick Baker.
A film that I will always have in my heart, thanks to which I still enjoy it today and thanks to which my boundless passion for horror was born.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Good TV show but not great as Breaking Bad
Without a shadow of a doubt, Better call Saul is a valid and interesting series, very well written and magnificently interpreted by a group of actors in a state of grace, but objectively, we are far from the maximum levels of Breaking bad and those who say that the two series are on the same level, sorry, but you're wrong. It is no coincidence that the best episodes of Better Call Saul are the ones most similar to Breaking Bad, therefore the darkest, most violent and most properly noir ones, while the others are more like a legal drama that occasionally veers towards comedy, resulting at times, a little weak and repetitive. It was nice to see Walt, Jesse, Gus and Mike again in addition to Saul, and also new characters like Chuck, Saul's brother or even Lalo, a really cool and disturbing villain, but despite this the level of pathos and adrenaline doesn't come close to Breaking Bad, which will remain one of the most important series on TV, while Better Call Saul is a good series but nothing more.
American Horror Story: The Auteur (2024)
weak ending!!!
Honestly, I'm a little disappointed by this very hasty ending, with holes in the script and so many unanswered questions, and I wonder, why?
It's a real shame because I really liked this season as a whole, it was one of the best in years, Emma Roberts is fabulous, incredibly talented and beautiful, Anna Alcott's character is very complex and fascinating, unfortunately Shioban is a very weak villain, unfortunately the fault of Kim Kardashian's lack of talent, but in fact, overall season 12 was very good, then we get to such a botched ending.
How is it possible that a very powerful and thousand-year-old witch is killed by a simple nursery rhyme???
What happens to the other witches?
Who left the dolls with nails?
Why does Anna wear Shioban's hat in the end and why does the child go from being a monster back to being human???
All unanswered questions, everything told too quickly, an ending that is not an ending....
A real shame, a very good season which however is partially ruined in the finale, in the last minutes, because for example, the birth scene is very intense, thanks to the very good Emma.
I hope that season 13 has a good ending and above all that it is the series finale, 13 seasons are enough.
Strangeland (1998)
Dee Snider creates the precursor to torture porn.
Being a metalhead and horror movie fan I obviously really appreciate Strangeland.
A film that has several holes in the script is undeniable, some things actually don't make sense, but the film is really very, very crude and perverse, the tortures that the sadistic Captain Howdy inflicts on his victims are truly atrocious, before Jigsaw there was It was Howdy, this film, dated 1998, is truly the precursor of torture porn and last, but not least, the film has a crazy soundtrack, which makes every type of metalhead happy, the film has everyone from Pantera to Soulfly , Anthrax, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson and of course Dee's band the Twisted Sisters.
Dee Snider's skill as an actor is also surprising, his villain is very convincing and Dee does everything well by bringing to the screen a character who is striking for his perversion and cruelty.
A small low-budget that deserves to be rediscovered.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
not necessary, but still fun!
Honestly, I've never been able to understand the meaning of this film, it's not a bad film to be clear, but objectively what's the point?
Why make such an important change and then make a film the same as the previous ones?
They decided not to stage Jason, but an emulator of him, among other things with a very predictable twist, right from the start we understand who is behind the hockey mask, but the main problem is that this type is of change, but the film has the same formula as the other chapters: stupid, handsome boys and girls and a killer who massacres them one by one, PERIOD.
Nothing bad, but why remove Jason's character? If you want to make such a radical change then change the type of film, the formula but instead......
Having said that, the film is still fun, very violent and with some very imaginative murders, fake Jason is still a good, rather ferocious and brutal villain.
So a valid film, but certainly not memorable.
American Horror Story: Multiply Thy Pain (2023)
Emma steal the show!!!!
I liked this twelfth season, I found it much more valid than the previous one, which frankly I found boring, not terrible, but still barely watchable.
Delicate is a sort of 2.0 version of Rosemary's Baby, and in fact, especially in one scene, there is no shortage of homages.
The plot is interesting, and fortunately, more linear than usual, some seasons had too many things in them, too many subplots, but this one is very linear and that's a good thing.
But the best thing of this season is the very good and charming Emma Roberts, who once again shows everyone how much she is a fabulous scream queen and above all how much better and more beautiful she is than the overrated and snobbish Aunt Julia. Emma literally steals the show and holds everything on her shoulders, the character of Anna is so strong, tragic and sweet at the same time, a character that stays with you. Emma you are fabulous.
Sore point is Kim Kardashian, really terrible, mono-expressive and above all her character doesn't have the slightest bite.
Day of the Dead (1985)
Best zombie movie ever made and best Romero's movie
Almost everyone, both audiences and critics, maintains that the best of Romero's undead saga is the second film, but in my opinion the third is not only the best of the saga and Romero's best film, but it is the zombie film best ever.
In this film Romero is at his best, the film is a tour de force of ferocity, tension, social criticism, but obviously also of fun.
Once again Romero tells us that the real "bad guys" are not zombies, but human beings, who no longer have anything human about them, and in fact we are seeing this today with what is happening in the world, perhaps Romero he had guessed the end of the human race.
The cast does a superlative job, from the good guys i.e. Sarah, Miguel, John, the zombie Bub (one of the best characters in the saga) to the bad guys, who are spectacular, above all the ruthless and sadistic Rhodes, magnificently played by the excellent and late Joe Pilate, but also the crude and cruel Steel, Torrez and all the other psychopathic soldiers manage to convey a malaise and malice that remains with you even after the end of the movie.
And then obviously there are them, our beloved zombies, relentless and hungry, masterfully created by Tom Savini who creates truly great gore special effects.
Nowadays the zombie genre no longer has anything to say, but at the time it was at its peak and this great movie is proof of this.
I am happy that I was able to meet Romero in person, exactly one year before his death.
We miss you master!!!!!
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Wrost Friday 13th ever!!!
I love Jason and the Friday the 13th saga, but as often happens, each saga has its black sheep, that of Alien is Prometheus, that of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is The Next Generation, that, or rather those of Halloween are Halloween III and Halloween Ends , in the case of Jason this is exactly Jason Goes to Hell, a film for which the filmmakers should go to hell, let's be clear, I'm open to creating different chapters within a saga, but if something is done otherwise it must be done well and intelligently, something that was lacking in those who carried out this terrible abortion.
There are so many things wrong with the movie that it's clear that they had no idea who Jason was and his story, because in this movie it turns out that Jason has a sister (wtf????), that Jason is actually a little monster that entered people's bodies to possess them, are we kidding??? It turns out that to kill Jason you need a magic dagger, that is, madness upon madness, I remember that when I was a kid and rented the VHS I was disconcerted by such nonsense....
Of all 12 chapters of the saga this is the only one, in my opinion, that sucks and doesn't deserve to be considered.
A Few Good Men (1992)
one of the BEST legal-thriller ever made
I have seen this film many times and every time it excites me, the last 20 minutes nail the viewer to the chair much more than any cheap action film, the tension between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson is palpable, the whole cast of this film is in state of grace, Cruise, Nicholson, Bacon etc., all at their best, furthermore the film sheds light on military fanaticism and everything that comes from it, unfortunately even today this fanaticism reigns supreme and risks bringing the world to the brink of the abyss.
It's a real shame that for years Tom Cruise has only dedicated himself to stupid action, even funny, but completely idiotic, I would like Cruise, who was a great actor at the time, to return to those levels and stop making Top Gun or Mission Impossible.
I close by saying that this legal thriller is one of the best ever made and I advise all lovers of this genre to watch this great film.
Mobsters (1991)
little gangster gem, to be rediscovered
I have always really appreciated this little gangster movie, yes it is undoubtedly not a masterpiece like Casino, Goodfellas, Carlito's Way, Scarface...., but it is better than other films of the same genre praised by all, I consider this film superior to the Godfather sequels or films like The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in America and others... all good films, but IMHO overrated, this "Mobsters" is a b movie, but it has great merit, it is aware of it, it doesn't try to be a arthouse film, this film doesn't care, it wants to be a funny, brutal (and it is, the violence is at the highest level, which is a good thing) and unleashed tour de force in the world of criminals of the 1920s, all represented with a good cast, Slater is very good, he manages to be suffering and ruthless at the same time, Dempsey is also good even if he has little space in the film, very nice Richard Grieco and Costas Mandylor (in the pre-Saw phase), the legendary and late Robert "Maniac Cop" Z'dar and then obviously the great Anthony Quinn who actually dominates the scene.
This film is certainly not an Oscar film (although actually seeing how we are reduced today, where a piece of rubbish like Barbie is sent to the Oscars, well maybe Mobsters deserved something too), but it is a film that should be rediscovered and appreciated.
Let Me Make You a Martyr (2016)
terrible movie, but Manson is AMAZING
I admit, as a Marilyn Manson fan, I watched this movie mostly for him and I can say that Manson is excellent, in fact, it's the only good thing about this pile of rubbish.
This film seems like a poorly managed mix of the rural noir cinema of the Coen brothers mixed with David Gordon Green, without however having the grandeur of No Country for Old Men or the intelligence of Joe with Nicolas Cage.
Unfortunately Asraf and Swab write the plot of this film very badly, making it very boring, but above all almost incomprehensible, several things don't make sense, everything is explained very badly, the ending... well it's not an ending, in fact, it's NOTHING, in short a total disaster, on the technical side the only positive thing is the very dirty and realistic photography, but the rest....my God.
We therefore arrive at the only truly positive thing, the legendary Marilyn Manson, one of my favorite singers who here gives a truly great acting performance, his hitman, called "the Pope" gives shivers, thanks to the grim, dark and crazy face of Marilyn, her gestures, her way of speaking....a crossover between Pope and Anton Chigur from No Country for Old Men would be nice.
In fact, I would be happy if Manson returned to play similar roles, but under the direction of more capable people.
A real shame therefore, in other hands this film could have been a small cult thriller/revenge movie and instead, with the exception of Manson, everything is terrible, so I close by simply saying:
MANSON ROCKS, THE MOVIE SUCKS.
Sound of Freedom (2023)
Not bad, but not a masterpiece.
I honestly don't understand the controversies relating to this film, those who love it say that it is a film against the dem and that it shows how true the conspiracy theories are, those who hate the film, in fact, say that it is a false and conspiracy film. Honestly, the film is none of this, fortunately it doesn't praise the crazy and pathetic conspiracy theories of those idiots from qanon, not does it oppose the dems or anything else, it tells the story of this federal agent and the trafficking of children reduced to slavery sexual, things that unfortunately exist.
The film as a whole is decent, not great , but not bad either, it has a good level of suspance, the cast isn't bad, even Caviezel who I usually consider to be a pretty terrible actor, but this time he was good. So I think both the super supporters and the super detractors are ridiculous because they love or hate the film for absurd and wrong reasons.
Fargo (2014)
season one is the best, but not good as the movie.
Personally, I believe that none of the 5 seasons of Fargo is at the level of the film, which remains unattainable, but I believe that the first season comes very close to it, especially for the grandiose villain played by the always immense and unfortunately underrated Billy Bob Thornton, the atmosphere, the tension and brutality of season 1 are very similar to the film, and in my opinion, it should have remained one and only season, therefore a mini series, all subsequent seasons are inferior to both the first season and the film, season 2 is valid , but the last few episodes, especially that twist, are ridiculous.
The third, the weakest, not bad, but boring and uninteresting.
The fourth is very good, I'll put it immediately after the first, especially for the presence of the very good Salvatore Esposito, who after his Genny from Gomorrah gives us another memorable gangster, his Gaetano Fadda was truly a very cool villain.
The fifth and hopefully final season, yes 5 are enough, it's time to put an end to these endless series, at a certain point it has to end, I'm liking it, the last episode is missing, but I can say that it's very interesting, and the villain by Jon Hamm is the third best villain of the series after Lorne Malvo and Gaetano Fadda.
So my ranking from best to worst: 1, 4, 5, 2 and 3.
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
BEST vampire movie ever made!!!
I remember when I went to see this film at the theatre, I was 14 years old, at the time there was no internet or social media yet (good times) so little or nothing was known about every film that came out, so this film, on the surface it seemed like a pulp noir, in fact it is, but as we all know, it's not just that, if it had come out today, everything would have been known "thanks" to these damned social networks.
But let's go back to the film:
The first part is great, it starts immediately at maximum speed with a mix of the style of Rodriguez (director of the film) fresh from El Mariachi and Desperado and a mix of the style of Tarantino (screenwriter and actor of the film) who was fresh from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, so the whole first part of the film is really cool anyway, then the second part begins, which we all know by now, everything explodes in a bloodbath, and scary monsters made with the old and classic make up, from the crime pulp we move on to a wild and super gore vampire movie where finally we don't have the usual cool, fascinating vampires, but disgusting and horrifying monsters thirsty for blood. The final battle is one of the most spectacular sequences seen in both horror and action.
A mention is also due to the cast with a still little-known George Clooney in an unusual role, his best role in my opinion, which he will never be able to replicate again, Tarantino absolutely perfect in the role of the crazy rapist gangster and obviously excellent, as always, Harvey Keitel as a priest who has lost his faith, but who will have to find it again to fight the ravenous vampires.
To this day I consider From Dusk Till Dawn the best vampire film ever made, I would like more films of this type, but today unfortunately it seems that no one is capable of making valid films anymore, today everyone is satisfied with mediocre and useless films .
Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)
dirty, vulgar, bloody and metalhead, and I like that
I'll start by saying that I'm getting sick of reading certain comments, people complaining because the film has bad language, because it's a crude film... since when are these elements negative elements in a horror film? Do we really want to be invaded by rubbish like Barbie or comics and the rest of the glossy rubbish??? I think we should be happy to see, in 2023, an old school horror film, with swear words, violence and a wholesome heavy metal soundtrack instead of the usual abominable rap.
Having made this necessary premise, I move on to the film, which I think is really entertaining, especially in the dialogues, I believe that Begos has the same tastes as me both in terms of music (I agree with what the final girl says about Metallica) and in terms of films, I agree on pet sematary 2, on Hellraiser 3, on Freddy's Dead and Child's play 2, so I say BRAVO BEGOS, we two understand each other!!!!!
The film is low budget but well made, with truly evocative psychedelic photography, the gore is at the highest levels, as is the politically incorrect, just think of when Santa Claus enters the family's house.....
This film is certainly not a cult, but in this sea of nothingness that American cinema is bringing out (now completely lost) a little jewel like this should be rewarded and not criticized, instead this film has a 5.1 rating and Barbie has a rating 7, then let's ask ourselves why American cinema increasingly sucks.
Adagio (2023)
Stefano is back!
As an Italian I am really proud to have a master of noir like Stefano Sollima, who to this day is the best director we have in Italy (yes, even better than Garrone and Sorrentino, good directors, but not like Stefano) and also this time with this "Adagio" the Roman director gives us a little gem of noir, we are not at the enormous levels of the Romanzo Criminale and Gomorrah TV series nor at the levels of a film like Suburra, but we are certainly faced with a good noir, solid and very dark and gloomy, told with great mastery and class and played by truly extraordinary actors, above all, as always, Pierfrancesco Favino who I can affirm is the real Italian Robert De Niro, but Valerio Mastandrea, Toni Servillo and a disturbing Adriano Giannini are no exception in the role of an unusual villain, as ruthless towards his victims as he is sweet and caring towards his children.
The cinematography by the always excellent Paolo Carnera immerses the spectator in a metropolitan nightmare made of fire and darkness and an almost dystopian imagery in which Sollima drags the spectator for the entire duration of the film and makes him participate in the dramas of our protagonists, in particularly those of the young Manuel, in fact, the only truly positive figure in the story, in fact it seems that Sollima places some hope for the future precisely on Manuel and more generally on the new generations.
The film ideologically concludes the narrative circle born with the Romanzo Criminale series and continued with the Suburra film, yes because Adagio tells the story of the last old and tired members of the Magliana who have now reached the end of the line in a sort of poignant and melancholic farewell.
Adagio is certainly not a masterpiece like Sollima's other works, but it is still a powerful and important film that must be seen and appreciated.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Sam Esmail strikes again!
After the extraordinary Mr. Robot series I was waiting for the return of the great Esmail with trepidation and I'm happy to say that my expectations were rewarded.
Obviously, we are not at the level of Mr. Robot also because it was really difficult to be able to replicate that jewel, but in any case Esmail proves, once again, that he is truly a genius and that he is able to create an original and engaging story from start to finish. Minute.
Basically this film is a metaphor for the (unfortunately horrible) times we are living in, human relationships almost no longer exist, all of us are slaves to technology and once this disappears there is no hope left for any of us, and the film shows this aspect in its most disturbing form, everything collapses, the trust we have in others is lost, differences and hatred take over and nature reminds us that we can play to be the masters of the world, but we are not and never will be.
From a technical point of view we are truly at very high levels, Esmail's direction is excellent, the use of the camera involves and guides the viewer inside the nightmare of the six protagonists, there are some shots from above that are very reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock , the cast is in a state of grace, Ethan Hawke and Ali are always excellent, and this time I also really appreciated Julia Roberts, an actress who I usually don't like and who I have always found overrated (on the contrary I adore her niece Emma), but in this film, thanks above all to Esmail's direction, she too is very credible.
I don't want to dwell on the ending, which I notice is dividing the public in half, I personally loved it, it's a very profound ending for a whole series of reasons which obviously I won't list, but I believe that those who criticize it or not have understood or simply part of the public lobotomized by Marvel and DC rubbish or by the various endless sequels of Mission Impossible and Fast & Furious.
Welcome back Sam, now I'm very curious about the TV show based on the Metropolis movie.
Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence (1992)
I know Lustig and the fans hate this movie, but....
....personally it is my favorite of the trilogy, the hospital setting is spot on, the murders (two in particular) are among the most imaginative I have seen in a horror film, the atmosphere of the film is very dark and gloomy, all the final part is spectacular, with a really well done action chase sequence, a sequence that disintegrates the various Fast & Furious films.
Matt Cordell is a truly fantastic villain and it's a real shame that he never had the success he deserves, just as it's a shame that the TV series project produced by Refn never materialized, I would have liked to see our zombie cop again cause new carnage.
I conclude by saying that for me, this film is close to a masterpiece and my rating is a solid 9/10.
Thanksgiving (2023)
Welcome back Eli
I have always been a fan of Eli Roth, I consider him a very good director who loves horror, who grew up with horror and he always puts this love into his works just as he always puts a certain social criticism and always puts it into fine and intelligent way, you can see it in Hostel 1 and 2, Green Inferno, partly also in Death Wish and certainly in this Thanksgiving, especially in the initial part, sadly truthful and Roth throws it in our faces.
Then we move on to slasher as well and Thanksgiving is an act of love towards the slasher of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. The film pays homage to works such as Friday the 13th and Halloween, but also Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and My Bloody valentine.... Roth knows how to create tension but also entertain gorem fans, the murders are truly creative and sadistic (one in particular), the final twist is quite unexpected, this new villain is very convincing.
We are certainly not looking at a masterpiece, but this movie doesn't want to be one in the slightest, this movie wants to entertain and it does it well.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
David what happened to you?
I can't understand what happened to David Gordon Green, I LOVED Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills, I think they're wonderful, then he made a mess like Halloween Ends, which destroys a historical icon like Michael Myers and now this The Believer.
Let's be clear, The Exorcist shouldn't have had sequels, it shouldn't have become a franchise, Friedkin's film is not just a horror film, but an auteur film, in fact all the sequels are terrible (with the exception of Exorcist the beginning which in my opinion it's watchable) but with this The Believer you reach absurd levels of disgust, a film where nothing works, the plot is ridiculous, the cast is terrible, Ellen Burstyn is used very badly, the two possessed girls make you laugh at how ridiculous they are, Regan in the first movie terrified you just with her gaze, but here we are at an absolute level of trash.
I don't understand what happened to Gordon Green, you can't go from masterpieces like H18 and Kills to rubbish like Ends and Believer.
Barbarian (2022)
very scary and original!!!!
I found this "Barbarian" to be a truly intriguing, original, but above all very scary film, some moments convey tremendous anguish, thanks to the direction and screenplay by Zach Cregger who proved to be very good and therefore I hope he makes other horror movies.
The film begins in a particular way, slow, but never boring, but the interesting thing is that it seems that the story is going in one direction when in reality it is about something completely different and when the "real" story begins the terror begins , the twists and turns are continuous as are the moments of tension, tension that comes directly without the use of stupid Jump Scares, not to mention the excellent performance of the entire cast above all obviously the always excellent Bill Skarsgard and Richard Brake i who delighted us respectively in the role of two killer clowns, the first with the wonderful remake of It and in its sequel, good, but not exceptional, obviously in the role of Pennywise and the second in the role of the crazy Doom Head in the fun 31 directed by great Rob Zombie. Both of them have different roles in this film, but once again they demonstrate their boundless talent.
I won't say anything else because this film should be seen without knowing anything because it is full of twists and surprises, so sit on the sofa and enjoy this good film.
Saw X (2023)
wow, what a nice surprise!!!!!
I admit, I was very skeptical towards this movie, I deeply hated "Jigsaw", I consider it the worst of the saga, and I find "Spiral" a nice spin off but nothing more, so today, having reached a tenth chapter I asked myself "But what's the point?" "what else does this franchise have to say"???
Well, Saw X has demonstrated great maturity, yes because it is a very touching and intelligent film.
The first part, focused on John's illness, destroyed me, as I am a very hypochondriac, every time we talk about illnesses I am very impressed and this film tells the drama of sick people in a very realistic way.
Then we get to the second part and the game begins and...wow, the new Jigsaw game is among the most brutal and ferocious of the saga, a scene, I admit, bothered me for its high level of sadism, the final twist it's not the most surprising, but it actually suits the story told in this film.
To conclude, I would like to spend a few words on the interpretation of Tobin Bell, a masterful interpretation, it is a shame that Bell is so underrated, he is truly very good, he has an icy gaze that freezes the blood and at the same time he manages to give very empathetic and suffering expressions that make you they tighten the heart, so Bell is a truly very versatile actor, but today we prefer to give Oscars to Top Gun 2 or Barbie.....
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
MASTERPIECE!!!! better than original
Frankly, I have never understood the hatred that many have towards Marcus Nispel, hatred that led the latter to abandon the world of entertainment to dedicate himself to the world of real estate.
Very sad, for me Nispel is a great director and he proved it with this debut, his remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is absolutely perfect, one of the few horror films that managed to scare me when I saw it in the theatre, 20 years ago, I was 21 years old and I was already a very experienced horror fan, nothing scared me, but this film, with its atmosphere, made me uncomfortable and at the end of the viewing, when the lights came on I was glued to my seat in the theatre.
As I said, the atmosphere is terrifying, the photography by Daniel C. Pearl (the same as the original film) immerses the viewer in a dirty and rotten world, Nispel's direction is masterful, the use of the camera is truly extraordinary, especially in the initial suicide scene, the cast is excellent, the young protagonists are very convincing and you fear for their lives (unlike many horror films in which the characters are so idiotic and superficial that you can't wait to see them die ) but not here. The beautiful and talented Jessica Biel offers a very realistic performance and, in fact, puts her in the Olympus of the best final girls, much better than Marilyn Burns who did nothing but scream and cry, Jessica is scared but she is also combative.
The Villains are immense, Andrew Bryniarski is undoubtedly the best leatherface of the saga, imposing, ruthless and brutal, unlike Hansen's leatherface who was essentially almost a victim and you felt sorry for him, Bryniarski's is evil and scares you every time which is framed by the camera.
Honorable mention, also for the great R. Lee Ermey, who, mindful of his Sergeant Hartman, this time plays the sadistic and slimy Sheriff Hoyt, a villain who in terms of cruelty is not very far from leatherface, he psychologically tortures his victims , humiliates them and hits them in the vilest ways.
The original film by Tobe Hooper is a cult, no one denies it, and had dirty and sick atmospheres, a great film without a doubt, but I'm sorry, the remake is superior in everything, tension, characters, violence and cinematography.
I hope that Nispel reconsiders his idea and goes back to making films and his haters enjoy overrated directors like Jordan Peele or Alex Garland, I prefer to keep Marcus !!!!!
Expend4bles (2023)
terrible, stop make this garbage!!!!!
I'm so tired of seeing franchises that I love get destroyed by totally useless sequels, remakes, reboots etc., once again hollyweird proves it's over, the ideas are over, and like I said, let this strike blow up ALL of this squalid system, a system that only thinks about money and doesn't care much about quality, new ideas and respect for the public.
This horrible pile of rubbish is proof of this, after the excellent trilogy born over a decade ago here comes, without reason, without sense, a fourth film which is a disaster in every respect, the plot is ridiculous, the two twists ? So banal that I had guessed them after the first 5 minutes, the cast is now decimated, poor Sly no longer believes it, he's tired and it shows, which is why he should have pulled out, Statham is great, but he can't do it alone hold up the whole film, the young people are pathetic, above all that piece of plastic full of botox that is Megan Fox, a terrible actress and now she's not even that hot anymore given that she's completely redone and has a plastic visa.
The new villain is pathetic, before we had Van Damme and Mel Gibson, now??? Let's forget it's better.
I'm happy that the film flopped and I'm proud of NOT having seen it in the theater, I hope that this has served as a lesson to these dunces of producers and that they will finally stop continuing to churn out useless sequels.
That current Hollywood blows up and is reborn making almost only small or independent films, that's where the quality is found, the rest is rubbish.
