Two weeks ago, it was announced that Wyrmwood Road of the Dead and Wyrmwood: Apocalypse director Kiah Roache-Turner is gearing up to make a World War II-set shark thriller called Beast of War. Roache-Turner is reuniting with Cornerstone, the company that’s handling worldwide sales and distribution for his spider-themed horror film Sting, on this new project, and Cornerstone is currently presenting Beast of War to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. While the market is going on, Roache-Turner took a moment to talk to The Hollywood Reporter about the “unashamedly fun” shark film he’s gearing up to make.
The script has the following synopsis: 1942. A warship carries hundreds of Australian soldiers across the Timor Sea to the frontline of WW2. Suddenly, Japanese fighter jets scream out of the sky, and within minutes the ocean becomes a hell of steel, fire, oil, and blood. With the vessel destroyed,...

Restarted negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers that could mean an end to the actors strike have raised hopes for this year’s American Film Market, which runs Oct. 31-Nov, 5 in Santa Monica. What everyone is hoping for is, in the words of one leading indie producer, that “we can all get back to business.”
Even without a new SAG-AFTRA deal, there is a healthy batch of new titles on offer — a mix of international features and U.S. indie films that have secured interim agreements from the union to begin production. “In the last few days we’ve seen a waterfall of lineups,” says Nadiia Zaionchkovska, Cco of newly-founded Ukraine distributor Green Light Films, which will be making its market debut at this year’s AFM. “Lots of theatrical films, lots either in post or in pre-production, ready to shoot in the first...

British comedian, writer, actor and filmmaker Richard Ayoade looks to have attracted an A-list lineup for his third feature in the director’s chair.
According to sources, Ben Stiller, Jesse Eisenberg and Sally Hawkins are all in negotiations to star in dystopian comedy The Semplica Girl Diaries, which Ayoade has adapted from George Saunders’ short story of the same name alongside the Booker Prize-winning American author.
First published in 2012, the story follows a suburban father of three who keeps a diary in which he alludes to a status-symbol outdoor decoration called Semplica Girls. Based on a novel by Matt Haig (pick up a copy Here), The Radleys has the following synopsis:
