Chicago – When the word “Opera” is defined today, the person that would illustrate the word is Renée Fleming. The lyric soprano has done most major female opera roles, and has written a new book … “Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts for Health and Wellness” … and recently appeared at the Chicago Humanities Festival.
Renée Fleming has performed coloratura, lyric, and lighter spinto soprano operatic roles in Italian, German, French, Czech, and Russian, aside from her native English. A significant portion of her career has been the performance of new music, including world premieres of operas, concert pieces, and songs composed for her by André Previn, Caroline Shaw, Kevin Puts, Anders Hillborg, Nico Muhly, Henri Dutilleux, Brad Mehldau, and Wayne Shorter.

Ricky Strauss is exiting from his role as head of marketing at Apple TV+ after leading the department for nearly a year and a half. An Apple spokesperson confirmed Strauss would be stepping down from his Culver City-based role.
Another insider familiar with Strauss’ moves indicated that the exec is looking to pursue other creative endeavors. It is unclear whether the now-vacated position will be filled and who will step in if so.
Hired in January 2023, Strauss’ responsibilities included overseeing marketing campaigns, advertising and promotions for Apple TV+ programming, working under Tor Myrhen, Apple’s vice president of marketing communication.
Prior to his time at the tech giant, Strauss had spent nearly a decade at Disney and held the position of president of content and marketing for Disney+, helping steer the launch of the streaming service in 2019. Guitarist Nita Strauss married her longtime partner Josh Villalta on Saturday (May 4th) at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in Los Angeles, and rocked out at her own wedding reception alongside Alice Cooper and David Draiman.
Strauss wore a beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding gown, as seen in an exclusive pictorial for People, but that didn’t stop her from picking up her guitar and joining Cooper for a performance of the Beatles’ “Back in the U.S.S.R.,” as well as contributing vocals to Draiman’s performance of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” (the Disturbed singer also sang Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” at the reception).

Robert Downey Jr. has proven time and again that his range as an actor is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether it is with roles that he is most known for or those that sometimes slip by without proper recognition, he gives his best no matter what. Latest in the lot was his role as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, a role that also got his first and much-deserved Oscar.

Robert Downey Jr. is currently on one of the hottest runs of his four decade acting career, following his Oscar win for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” with an unprecedented turn in Park Chan-wook’s new HBO series “The Sympathizer” that sees him playing four different characters.
The two projects showcase opposite sides of Downey’s talents. His performance as Machiavellian political operative Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer” was an exercise in subtlety, relying on slight gestures and layered glances to provide the ideal foil for Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer. “The Sympathizer,” on the other hand, relies on the cocky screen presence that made his Tony Stark the most beloved fixture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Downey used a very colorful metaphor to explain that shooting “The Sympathizer” right after “Oppenheimer” allowed him to recover creatively from the precision that was required to work with Nolan.

And finally, Robert Downey Jr takes home much much-deserved Academy Award. For his performance in Christopher Nolans’s Oppenheimer where he played the key role of Lewis Strauss. The Iron Man actor was earlier nominated twice in the same category but could not convert them to a win, but his time his brilliant performance beat some really strong contenders including Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Ryan Gosling for Barbie and Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things to win the coveted award.
Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer
While he was taking the stage to receive the award and give his acceptance speech, he got a standing ovation as everyone believed he was the most deserving one. After having a career with so many great movies and in particular his run at the MCU, he not having won an Academy Award was no less than a mystery for the movie buff.

Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” were the big Oscar craft winners March 10, each winning three awards. Christopher Nolan’s historical thriller about the atomic bomb grabbed cinematography, editing, and original score, while Yargos Lanthimos’ surreal “Frankenstein” gender-bender snagged costume design, production design, and makeup and hairstyling.
The rest went to “Godzilla Minus One” (visual effects), “The Zone of Interest” (sound), and “Barbie”. The lone “Barbie” win was a major disappointment for Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster, which was expected to also take costume design and/or production design for the inventive Mattel-inspired fashion and world-building.
The wins for “Godzilla Minus One” and “The Zone of Interest” were both upsets: Takashi Yamazaki’s Kaiju actioner bested Gareth Edwards’ AI-themed “The Creator,” which won the Ves prize, and Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust drama about the banality of evil (the international feature film Oscar winner) overtook “Oppenheimer,” which won the...

To surprise of basically no one, Robert Downey Jr. has just won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as Lewis Strauss in "Oppenheimer." The movie was one of the biggest hits of 2023, both critically and financially, and Downey was a huge part of it. He brought the scheming, insecure Strauss to life on the big screen, and helped take a storyline that could've felt like a bunch of complicated legal clutter and turn it into an emotional, high-stakes battle of wills.
Downey's win is heartwarming for a whole host of reasons. One is the actor's well-known struggles with addiction in the late '90s and early 2000s, and the other is Downey Jr.'s long history of starring in exciting, varied, interesting films. From "Tropic Thunder" to "Zodiac" to his many appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this man has definitely put in the work to reach this career milestone.

It was, to paraphrase something a giant purple guy once said, inevitable. During the 96th Academy Awards ceremony, Robert Downey Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Admiral Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer." Although the fact that Downey Jr. has retained a relatively youthful appearance thanks to his pervasive charm and wry magnetism means that he doesn't quite feel like an "elder statesman" of the acting world, the actor has nonetheless enjoyed a lengthy 40+ year career in the motion picture business, and most of that career has seen him be continually praised by critics and fans alike as being one of the best actors working in film. With all of that in mind, his finally being awarded an Oscar feels like something that's been a very long time coming.

Harrison Ford can’t escape the two-and-a-half-minute fanfare that John Williams composed for his most famous cinematic hero, Indiana Jones. “As I often remind John, his music follows me everywhere I go — literally,” Ford says. “When I had my last colonoscopy, they were playing it on the operating room speakers.”
Creating those big, bold, brassy musical moments has become Williams’ trademark over his seven-decade career. Without his symphonic genius, some of the most indelible images in movie history — from E.T.’s flight across the moon to the ravenous shark zeroing in on an unsuspecting swimmer — would have lacked their singular power.
This year, Williams is resetting the record books again with his Academy Award nomination for best original score for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” It’s his 54th nomination, which is the most ever for someone not named Walt Disney, and thus the biggest tally for...

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has stamped its mark on streaming history, with the epic biopic now holding the record for the biggest pay-one movie launch on Peacock. Oppenheimer surpassed The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which previously held the Peacock record after its own 2022 streaming debut. Exact viewership numbers weren’t released for either film. But Peacock’s parent company NBCUniversal spotlighted Oppenheimer’s achievement, no doubt thrilled to see their pay-one deal with Universal Pictures paying major dividends.
Why Did Oppenheimer Dominate on Streaming?
Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer
According to Variety, Oppenheimer landed on Peacock on February 16, over seven months after its July 2022 theatrical release. Mario Bros. arrived on streaming faster, in April 2022, meaning anticipation likely built longer for Oppenheimer.
Of course, Oppenheimer was also 2023’s most acclaimed and profitable films—the $100 million drama stunned box office analysts by earning nearly $1 billion worldwide. And critics overwhelmingly praised Cillian Murphy’s...

From his breakthrough work Family Viewing, which dates back to 1987, Atom Egoyan has been exploring the possibilities of different communication technologies by showing screens within screens, stories within other stories and the ways unconnected stories may merge with each other and with real life. Seven Veils is named for the biblical character Salome, whose seductive dancing as she shed those veils earned her a grisly prize: the severed head of John the Baptist, the ascetic prophet who predicted the coming of Jesus Christ.
The title is just as suggestive, however, of Egoyan’s approach to storytelling. One diaphanous layer of Salome’s wrappings drops to reveal another beneath; in the same way, Egoyan story is peeled back, one reveal after another. It is understandable that, after its world premiere in Toronto, some critics described the film as muddled; for anyone unfamiliar with his source stories, this dense thicket of magic-lantern slides could well be bewildering.

In some ways, Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s biggest non-superhero movie, was a product of the pandemic. Until the winter of 2020, the director had been loyal to Warner Bros., and their logo was to be found on every film that Nolan either wrote, directed or produced.
While he was never formally tethered to that studio, Nolan had been monogamous as its cornerstone tentpole filmmaker, ever since his 1999 breakout indie film Memento led him to create Insomnia there.
That year, however, everything changed. The usually mild-mannered director was outraged by the decision of former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar to perpetrate a blindside dumping of the studio’s entire slate onto its HBO Max streaming service. This attempt to build subscribers for its streaming service at a time few were going to theaters incensed Nolan and many others. The filmmaker was still wounded by the studio’s decision to release Tenet while the...

Back in September 2021, a friend sent me a paragraph-long notice in a magazine, reporting that Hollywood director Christopher Nolan was working on a film about J. Robert Oppenheimer. This was disturbing news to me, a co-author of American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a 720-page biography of Oppenheimer that was published in 2005 and won a Pulitzer Prize in 2006. My co-author, Martin J. Sherwin, and I had never heard from Nolan.
But we had long hoped that our Oppenheimer biography might someday be turned into a film. Even before the book won the Pulitzer, a major Hollywood director had optioned the biography. Initially, we were thrilled. When we won the Pulitzer, the director sent us a bottle of French champagne. A script was written. But nearly four years later, a prestigious studio turned down the script, and the project was abandoned. When Marty and I were finally...

Christopher Nolan’s screenplay for “Oppenheimer” is dense, 180 pages, and a terrific read. Adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “American Prometheus,” the filmmaker found a conflicted hero in brilliant theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer, a Salieri antagonist in political operative Admiral Lewis Strauss, and a courtroom drama for each of them.
Nolan and I spoke over the phone about the writing of “Oppenheimer,” which is nominated for Adapted Screenplay. It’s one of the film’s 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt as his wife Kitty, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey, Jr. as Strauss.

Hunter Schafer and Noomi Rapace will star in “Palette,” a psychological horror film directed by Zach Strauss (“Smilf”) in his feature debut.
Strauss penned the script for “Palette,” which was featured on the 2023 Black List. He is also a writer on Spike Lee’s upcoming feature “Da Understudy.”
“Palette” follows Dolly (Schafer), “a woman suffering from extreme synesthesia, a rare condition where she is able to hear colors,” according to the film’s synopsis. She is soon “recruited into a secretive, cult-like industry of color design, uncovering the dark reality of what it takes to make the world’s greatest hues.”
Rapace is set to play Latrice, the company’s enigmatic executive. Frankie Shaw is also in the cast as Sidney, Dolly’s cutthroat rival.
Schafer is starring in another horror film, Tilman Singer’s “Cuckoo,” which is set to have its world premiere at Berlin Film Festival this month.

This article contains Oppenheimer spoilers.
It can be said that Christopher Nolan has always known how to end a movie. From Leonard Shelby concluding his journey where it began and asking “now where was I?” in Memento to the topper that wouldn’t stop spinning in Inception, this is a filmmaker who looks for the most potent image that will burrow its way into audiences’ heads.
Yet the final scene of his most ambitious film to date is something more impressive, if altogether disquieting. Oppenheimer definitely implants a grim idea in the viewer’s mind, but it does so by giving the uncanny impression that we are seeing it through J. Robert Oppenheimer’s eyes first. Standing by the duck pond that Albert Einstein (Tom Conti) has been consigned to by posterity, and where Oppie will be joining him in exile sooner than he realizes, the man credited with fathering...

One of the ghostwriter’s most valuable skills is getting their subjects to talk. So, when I gathered L.A.’s most successful ghostwriters at the Formosa Cafe to gossip, they knew all my tricks. In desperation, I went with the most transparent of all reporting techniques — buying them all fruity cocktails.
A reputation for discretion is not only how they get work, but how they avoid getting sued; they sign nondisclosure agreements for every memoir they write. But even if they revealed nothing scandalous about their famous clients — or at least nothing that couldn’t be discovered with a Google search — I learned a lot about the curious craft of ghostwriting and the types of personalities drawn to help famous people tell their life stories. Also, I learned why I am far too egotistical to do their job.

Christopher Landon won’t be directing Scream 7 – but he is adding Big Bad as a project to his slate, and it might just be next.
It should, by now, be a movie hurtling towards production. However, the collapse of Scream 7 before Christmas was topped off by the news that its director, Christopher Landon, had followed two of its cast out the door.
Melissa Barrera was fired from the film following her posts on social media that were critical of the Israeli government. Not far behind her was Jenna Ortega, with the star of one of Netflix’s biggest shows – Wednesday – having to honour her commitments to that production. She was thus out of Scream 7 too.
The immediate knock-on from this was that whatever script and story had been planned for the new film was pretty much out of the window, given that two stars needed replacing. And thus,...

One month after his exit from Scream 7, Deadline reports that Christopher Landon is lining up his next project, a werewolf thriller titled Big Bad.
Chandler Baker will pen the script for Big Bad, adapting her own short story which appeared as part of the anthology novel Creature Feature. The official logline for the story reads: “The Strauss family is on knife’s edge. Sam is a resentful stay-at-home dad. Rachel feels the restlessness in her blood returning. Their children are getting out of hand. And a recent mudslide has forced the wolves out of the woods to look for food. As dusk falls and tensions rise, the family must come together to survive the night—from the threats outside and those within.” Lionsgate is in advanced negotiations to acquire the package.

Exclusive: Lionsgate is closing a deal to purchase a package that will have Chandler Baker adapt her short story Big Bad for Chris Landon to direct. Todd Lieberman and Hidden Pictures will produce with Landon.
It’s Landon’s first new attachment after dropping out of directing Scream 7 in a chain of events that started with Spyglass firing actress Melissa Barrera after a salvo of social media the Scream franchise backer felt was anti-Semitic. This was after the October 7 terror attack in Israel and the subsequent invasion of Gaza. Jenna Ortega then dropped out, and Landon followed.
Author of the bestseller Whisper Network, Baker wrote this short story as part of the anthology novel Creature Feature. Here is the logline for what has the potential to be a howling good werewolf movie, when the story was published last fall: The Strauss family is on knife’s edge. Sam is a resentful stay-at-home dad.

A documentary film centered on the Ohio State University (Osu) sexual abuse scandal is currently in production and aims to bring renewed attention to the alleged role of then-osu coach and current right-wing Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
Produced by George Clooney and directed by Academy Award-winner Eva Orner, the untitled documentary will provide a comprehensive account of the decades-long abuse perpetrated by former Osu sports doctor Richard Strauss, as narrated by the victims, which include former All-American wrestlers and football players who have chosen to speak out for the first time.
Mike Schyck, one of the over 300 victims of Strauss’ abuse, recently told reporters that he was extensively interviewed by Orner and the production crew. Schyck expressed his hope that the documentary will have a profound impact on the current efforts to hold Osu accountable.

“Oppenheimer” hair department head Jaime Leigh McIntosh recalls being terrified when she signed on for Christopher Nolan‘s biographical film starring Cillian Murphy. “It was my first time working with IMAX and with Chris. You need to have an eye for detail in our line of work anyway, but in that world it is extreme. Also, it has to look right on the camera on the day because Chris is not going to be adjusting anything in post.”
We talked with McIntosh and makeup department head Luisa Abel as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2023/2024 awards contenders. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“My biggest challenge on ‘Oppenheimer’ was understanding the scope, understanding how we had to bring different periods across,” explains costume designer Ellen Mirojnick on the undertaking of the Christopher Nolan film. As she details, the epic look at the Manhattan Project and its architect J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) “took place over 45 years with ease in the cut, so you can’t have anything that’s gonna jump out of frame” in terms of her wardrobe choices. She discusses the scale of the task in a new video that Gold Derby is debuting exclusively, which also includes interviews with cast members and behind-the-scenes footage of filming. Watch the “Oppenheimer” exclusive video featurette above.
One of the key looks of the film for Mirojnick to get right was Oppenheimer’s trademark hat and pipe. She notes how the figure’s “silhouette from the beginning through the end of his life didn’t really change.

10 November 2023 — Today, Lise Davidsen, the most in-demand soprano in the world right now, releases her new album, ‘Christmas From Norway’ via Decca Classics/Universal Music Canada. Hailed as “The living, breathing meteor of the current opera world.” (The I Paper), Lise Davidsen‘s forthcoming album presents a delightful and personally selected collection of traditional Norwegian Christmas music and classic festive favourites, spreading the warm glow of the Scandinavian Christmas spirit. Reflecting on the project, Lise expresses her long-standing desire to create this album. “For Scandinavians, Christmas serves as a beacon of light in the midst of a lengthy winter. Perhaps that is why we embrace it so wholeheartedly.” says Lise.

It seems a little trite and obvious to put into words, but the film "Oppenheimer" had to be made carefully when it came to the movie's optics. The ostensible protagonist of the biopic is J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), a man whose life and legacy are fraught with numerous political, social, and moral issues that cannot be easily resolved in reality, let alone a single motion picture. Added to that is writer/director Christopher Nolan's unique approach to telling his story, which revolves around adopting an intensely subjective point of view, an aesthetic that began with the movie's script being written in the first person (from Oppenheimer's perspective) and continued as far as the depiction of a number of surreal, dreamlike visions that Oppenheimer experiences during the film.

Anyone who's watched a Christopher Nolan movie knows that the blockbuster director has his eyes set on one thing above all else: verisimilitude. Even as someone whose movies have dabbled in superheroes, mind heists, and actual magic, Nolan always seems to circle back to grounding his stories in reality ... because, in many ways, fact really can be just as dramatic and inexplicable as fiction. In that sense, it might have been inevitable that he'd end up making an epic-sized biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the so-called "father of the atomic bomb." True to form, "Oppenheimer" digs deep into its source material to uncover every step taken on the path towards one of history's most unspeakable atrocities.
Nolan's obsessive quest to research all aspects of Oppenheimer's life and especially the political rivalry between he and Lewis Strauss, however, didn't just stop there.

On Friday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was nominated by the House GOP caucus to replace Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House – third in line to the presidency. He was endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
But a cloud hangs over Jordan. He has been accused of failing to report abuse at Ohio State University, where he worked as an assistant wrestling coach from 1987 to 1995.
An upcoming documentary about abuse at Ohio State — directed by and starring George Clooney for HBO — may draw more attention to the scandal and prompt more questions about Jordan’s involvement.
Though Jordan has repeatedly denied knowing about the allegations against Dr. Richard Strauss, who allegedly abused at least 177 male students at the university between 1979 and 1996, former wrestlers have claimed that Jordan was present when players spoke about Strauss, who died by suicide in 2005.

Rep. Nancy Mace announced she plans to support Rep. Jim Jordan to replace ousted House speaker Kevin McCarthy, whom she voted to remove from office last week. When pressed about the allegations that Jordan ignored sexual assaults by a team doctor while he was a wrestling coach at Ohio State University, the Republican congresswoman claimed to not “know anything” about the issue, despite it being widely reported.
“I know you’ve been outspoken about defending victims of sexual assault,” Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan said to Mace on Sunday.

There has been a great deal of angst expressed over artificial intelligence during the recent WGA and current SAG-AFTRA strikes. Although I can certainly understand the concern due to the newness of the technology, the perceived looming battle is nothing new. It’s just a continuation of a conflict that has been ongoing for centuries.
Specifically, it’s the battle which is so old that it’s a cliché: the struggle between art and consumerism. The proverbial war between artists and those that attempt to profit from their work.
One could argue that AI, or at least the fruit of its work, has also been around for centuries. Since AI is incapable of creating both anything original and anything that resembles art in any substantive form, it’s a useless tool for an artist. But a very powerful tool if one is only concerned with making money.

I’ve always been interested and super curious about the whole Mk Ultra CIA Human Experiment story and have often found myself reading articles, listening to podcasts or watching the odd rare documentary diving into what is and is not known about the highly illegal but absolutely fascinating events. So a dramatisation of one man’s involvement was sure to get my juices flowing.
There was also an added interesting factor to Mk Ultra with the director being from an intelligence background. This may not make much difference in terms of a factual nature (although it couldn’t hurt) but you have to imagine it would make a difference in terms of aesthetic and the procedural nature of the story as we take an all too real,...

There was also an added interesting factor to Mk Ultra with the director being from an intelligence background. This may not make much difference in terms of a factual nature (although it couldn’t hurt) but you have to imagine it would make a difference in terms of aesthetic and the procedural nature of the story as we take an all too real,...

It’s the year of color/black-and-white hybrid films, led by such Best Cinematography Oscar contenders shot on Kodak film as “Oppenheimer” (Universal), “Poor Things” (Searchlight), “Asteroid City” (Focus Features), and “Maestro” (Netflix). In addition, there are two other contenders of interest: “The Zone of Interest” (A24) contains a series of striking monochromatic moments, while the black-and-white “El Conde” (Netflix) offers a lone color sequence.
They are part of a great stylistic tradition of intermingling color and black-and-white to evoke heightened states of mind in such films as “The Wizard of Oz,” “A Matter of Life and Death,” “Bonjour Tristesse,” “Wings of Desire,” “JFK,” “Natural Born Killers,” and “Pleasantville.” It can be real or imaginary, but the aesthetic differences help drive the narratives.
By contrast, “A Haunting in Venice” (20th Century), shot by Kenneth Branaugh’s go-to cinematographer, Haris Zambarloukos, utilizes conventional black-and-white flashbacks to recap a mysterious murder. This...

No Spaced. No The League of Gentlemen. No Smack the Pony or Goodness Gracious Me or The Royle Family or Brass Eye, or Red Dwarf or Father Ted or anything that belongs to the last century (side note: the late 90s were an incredible time for UK comedy). These are the 40 finest British comedy TV shows that have arrived since the year 2000, as nominated by our writers. Add in your favourites below, and it’s a party.
What’s cheering about this lot, apart from the fact that as comedies, they should all technically cheer us up, is how different they are. There’s the surreal chaos of Year of the Rabbit, and the sweet warmth of Lovesick, the Pythonesque bonkersness of Yonderland, the satirical might of The Thick of It and much more. Something for everyone, you might say.
And to make sure there was enough space to include a wide enough selection,...

Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth Wvh recently performed on NBC’s Today show, and in a heartwarming moment, cameras captured his mom, actress Valerie Bertinelli, and fiancée, Andraia Allsop, cheering on the band from the sidelines.
Speaking with Heavy Consequence, Wolfgang said the Today show performance was “one of the most nerve-wracking things ever.”
“I hadn’t slept at all, because we were up so early,” he added. “So, it was just kind of one big dream. It was an insane opportunity, where you’re just kind of playing, and you turn to your right and Al Roker is sitting there watching. Very, very crazy. But yeah, my mom and and my fiancée have just been so wonderful. They’re definitely the people I rely on and lean on. Just having them there to support me was really special.”

Christopher Nolan’s biopic “Oppenheimer” has already grossed over $270 million domestically, setting a number of records both for the filmmaker and in general. There’s been a lot of talk about its Oscar potential next year, so it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty in the below-the-line crafts categories where it is likely to get nominations, as well as its primary competition in those races.
The presence of “Dune: Part Two” — unless Warner Bros. moves it due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes — hangs over “Oppenheimer” like a dark Oscar cloud. The first “Dune” won six Oscars in early 2022, all in craft and technical categories, only missing out on two of its nominations there for Best Costume Design (which went to “Cruella“) and for Best Makeup and Hairstyling (which went to “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”). It’s fairly safe to presume that the finale of Denis Villeneuve...
